🔺Red Dress Day, observed on May 5, honours Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People (MMIWG2S). This day raises awareness of the ongoing crisis of gendered and racialized violence facing Indigenous communities and calls for action to address its root causes — including systemic racism, colonialism, and misogyny. Indigenous women are 12 times more likely to be murdered or go missing than any other women in Canada.
The red dress stands as a powerful symbol of those lost — mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, and loved ones — whose absence is deeply felt and whose justice is long overdue.❓Looking to learn more? ehprnh2mwo3.exactdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Calls_to_Action_English2.pdfwww.jaimeblackartist.com/exhibitions/❤️Resources Minwaashin Lodge Programswww.minlodge.com/Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA)www.onwa.ca/ottawa-servicesOttawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW)www.octevaw-cocvff.ca/Canadian Women's Foundation canadianwomen.org/blog/indigenous-supports/ ... 🍃Tomorrow marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week, where we shine a light on the hidden struggles so many of us face. The theme “Unmasking Mental Health” reminds us that people often feel the need to hide parts of themselves — their emotions, symptoms, behaviours — just to feel safe or accepted.
For those living with mental illness or substance use challenges, this masking can be a daily survival tactic driven by fear of stigma and judgment. No one should feel they have to hide who they are to belong. Belong Ottawa provides safe spaces where everyone can belong and feel valued and supported. We welcome everyone to be themselves. 💚❓ResourcesCMHA Ottawa ottawa.cmha.ca/about-cmha/for-clients/mental-health-resources-and-crisis-lines/The Royal www.theroyal.ca/patient-care-information/about-mental-health/mental-health-resources#BelongOttawa #UnmaskingMentalHealth ...
